This week I received the formal offer letter from the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) for my place on their Future Tutor Programme (FTP), which is due to start in September 2020. I’d already received an informal offer by email a couple of days after the interview but the letter makes it official!
It’s been the end (or beginning?!) of a process that started back in February, when I submitted the initial application form. At that time we were all set for an in-person selection process but then the arrival of the coronavirus in the UK meant that everything was put on hold while the RSN worked out how best to proceed online.
And proceed online we did! Part of the new process involved submitting a 3-minute ‘video selfie’ in which we had to talk about our stitching experience and what we hoped to achieve after the FTP. I was quite nervous about doing the selfie. I don’t like having my photo taken, let alone being in a video. But in actual fact, it wasn’t that bad. Dare I say it was enjoyable?! A Zoom interview soon followed and then the informal offer by email.
The first person I phoned was my gran, of course (see About Me), who then went on to phone the entire extended family that very same evening! I’m not sure who was more excited – her or me!
I’m now eagerly anticipating the arrival of the welcome pack, which contains a selection of preparatory activities and more information on the course. Bring on September!

Questa settimana ho ricevuto la lettera di offerta formale dalla Royal School of Needlework (RSN) per il mio posto nel loro Future Tutor Programme (FTP) – il programma di formazione per futuri insegnanti di ricamo – che dovrebbe iniziare a settembre 2020. Avevo già ricevuto un’offerta informale via e-mail un paio di giorni dopo l’intervista, ma la lettera lo rende ufficiale!
È stata la fine (o l’inizio?!) di un processo iniziato a febbraio, quando ho inviato il modulo di domanda iniziale. A quel tempo eravamo tutti pronti per un processo di selezione di persona, ma poi l’arrivo del coronavirus nel Regno Unito ha comportato che tutto sia stato sospeso mentre la RSN ha trovato il modo migliore per procedere online.
E abbiamo proceduto online! Parte del nuovo processo prevedeva l’invio di un “selfie filmato” di 3 minuti in cui dovevamo parlare della nostra esperienza di cucitura e di ciò che speravamo di ottenere dopo l’FTP. Ero un po’ preoccupata per fare il selfie. Non mi piace fare le foto, tanto meno essere in un video. Ma in realtà, non è stato poi così male. Oserei dire che è stato divertente?! A breve è seguita un’intervista su Zoom e poi l’offerta informale via e-mail.
La prima persona a cui ho telefonato è stata mia nonna, ovviamente (vedi Chi sono), che ha continuato a telefonare a tutta la famiglia allargata quella stessa sera! Non sono sicura di chi fosse più eccitato – lei o me!
Ora sto aspettando con impazienza l’arrivo del pacchetto di benvenuto, che contiene una selezione di attività preparatorie e ulteriori informazioni sul corso. Fatti sotto!
Un’aula con vista! Non vedo l’ora di rendere panorami come questo la norma da settembre.
